Medicare's GLP-1 Discount Is Here — but Some Sick Patients Are Still Outside the Door

That gap sits inside a larger one: Medicare has expanded access, yet some seriously ill patients remain outside a provision built with them in view.

Zechariah’s words put a legal command beside a personal one: “Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness” — and the distinction matters here. A rule can be fair on paper and still land hard on someone who has already survived bypass surgery and now waits. The report does not explain exactly why these patients are excluded, and it does not prove how many are affected. That absence should keep us careful rather than certain that the system is acting cruelly or that it is finished.

If the discount arrives and we stop noticing the person still trying to reach it, mercy becomes an announcement rather than an action. The deeper spiritual practice is attention: asking whom an improvement still leaves outside, not to condemn, but to keep fairness from turning into an abstraction.
