The uncomfortable question underneath them: does it matter why a cure gets made? Anthropic's pivot toward biology arrives at a convenient moment for its public image, and skeptics hear investor confidence where optimists hear scientific ambition. Both readings are plausible, and the source does not settle which is true.

What the source does show is a process, not a verdict. The money is real, the partnerships are real, and the work between announcement and cure — pairing researchers with engineers, adding safeguards against misuse, proving measurable benefit rather than satisfying investors — is where the promise will either be kept or quietly abandoned. That is the tradeoff worth holding: the same investments that could speed drug development also carry energy costs, security risks, and rising health care expenses.
